About Stephanie

Stephanie Babij (she/her) is a visual artist and muralist of Ojibwe and Ukrainian/mixed-settler heritage. Originally from Sudbury, and a member of Wikwemikong Unceded First Nation, she now makes her home on Unceded Algonquin Territory in Ottawa. Stephanie grew up in urban spaces, where access to the strength and love of community and land-based teachings were not readily available. In adulthood she is making her way back to community, culture, and identity.

Stephanie’s visual arts practice includes both solo and community-engaged murals, acrylic paintings, digital illustration, wood-burned art, and printmaking. In her work you’ll find elements of plants, animals, natural cycles, the spirit world, and the celebration of bodies. The pieces that she creates call people to honour their relationship with the land and welcome dialogues about climate justice and living ethically with creation.
